Herring River Restoration Project

The Transparency Problem

Proponents of the Herring River Restoration Project have amply informed the public about the project … but only what they want the public to know.

The Wellfleet taxpayers have been shielded from a host of potential unintended consequences. They range from relatively minor issues, like exacerbation of the nuisance mosquito problem to disastrous outcomes like the smothering of oyster beds in the Wellfleet Harbor. The large size, remarkable complexity, and long duration of the project make the likelihood of unintended consequences virtually certain.

Selective lack of transparency is displayed by the stark contrast between my perception of the likelihood of various outcomes and those heralded by the project proponents.

This website is a vehicle to share some details about the project that are not readily available or widely known. It cannot solve the transparency problem, but it may help.
